• The period of residence in Belgium is reduced to 2 years for political refugees and stateless persons
  
  
• Residence abroad can be equated with residence in Belgium if you can prove that you had genuine ties with Belgium during these periods
  
  
• If you obtain Belgian nationality your children will automatically obtain Belgian nationality on the same date provided that they are under 18 years of age, they are not emancipated and that you hold parental authority as a parent or adoptive parent for them
  
  
• Recognized political prisoners of the Second World War; foreigners who carried out service during the war 1940-1945 in the Belgian Forces in Great Britain; and action and intelligence agents (under the terms of the decree-law of February 16, 1946) are exempted from residence requirement
