- Foreign nationals who have 4 years' employment
covered by a category B work permit out of a maximum

Specific
Rules
The
main categories of foreign nationals exempt from
the work permit

states of the European Economic Area (EEA) and

- The spouse of a Belgian and their

- Foreign
nationals in possession of a Residence Permit
- Foreign nationals authorized or
admitted for an unlimited period of time
- Acknowledged
refugees in Belgium
- Students staying legally in Belgium
to work only during school holidays (the Christmas
holidays, the Easter holidays and the summer holidays)
- Students on training courses mandatory
for their studies in Belgium
- Apprentices
hired under the terms of an apprenticeship or sandwich
course contract
- Foreign nationals employed by a
local employment agency

- Work Permit A is issued for indefinite period and
is valid for all employers and all salaried professions
throughout Belgium
- The period of proof of employment is reduced to
three years for nationals of countries with which
Belgium is linked by international conventions or
agreements on the employment of foreign workers
Note: This period is also
reduced by one year if the spouse or children
of the foreign national also reside with
the principal legally
- If the foreign worker has a Work Permit A, the
employer does not have to apply for an employment
authorization
